BELFAST ARE YOU READY FOR SOME SUPERCROSS
*Please note the Glasgow round of the British Supercross series due to be staged on Saturday 26th November has sadly had to be cancelled.* (See Press Release Below)
With round 1 of this years British Supercross Championship in the history books Supercross is about to invade the Odyssey Arena for round 2 of the series on Saturday, November 19th.
A strong contingent of home grown stars will be on hand to defend home turf in front of what is expected to be another full house after last years sell-out crowd. Former Supercross and Motocross champion Gordon Crockard fresh from a quick racing visit to Australia will be on hand and joined by fellow countryman Martin Barr who won at Belfast last year. Barr will make his LPE Kawasaki debut after leaving Boost Energy KTM. Also joining the Irish rider line up will be Edward Allingham and Rob Hooper's Maxxis Apico Suzuki rider Stuart Edmonds who won the popular Head to Head at round 1 in Sheffield.
In addition to the home grown talent on display at Odyssey Arena, star riders from across the UK will flock to the Odyssey for the second round of the series. HM Plant Red Bull KTM defending champ Tom Church will be back in Belfast after a solid start to the series in Sheffield back in October. Stevens/Evo Tech Honda Supercross Lights points leader Neville Bradshaw who has family connections to Belfast will look to continue his winning ways. Northern Ireland's Relentless Suzuki team will look to Scottish MX Superstar Stephen Sword to repeat Relentless Suzuki's performance at last year's Odyssey event when Martin Barr took the popular British Supercross Championship final for the team. Defending Lights Champ Jack Brunell will look to improve after a disappointing first round at Sheffield. Buildbase Honda superstar Frenchman Nicolas Aubin had a very impressive first round and will look to the top step of the podium for round 2.
Once again the home riders will have some fierce competition as the best ever line up of British Supercross talent is coming to Belfast all with the same goal, to win the British Supercross Championship and a slice of the £40,000 up for grabs.
GLASGOW PRESS RELEASE It is with deep regret that Future West have to announce the cancellation of the Glasgow round of this year’s Future West ACU British Supercross Championships. Future West have worked very hard to return a round of the series to Scotland after a 7 year absence from the region but the unreliability of local contractors have made it impossible to carry on with the event scheduled for the 26th of November.
Future West would like to thank the Scottish Motocross community for their support and help in trying to make this event work. It is really unfortunate to all involved and Future West would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused the UK motocross community. Full refunds for tickets are available from the Arena and rider entry refunds are available from the ACU or can be applied to the Belfast, London or Birmingham rounds of the series.
John Hellam had this to say: “This is a very disappointing and frustrating situation. Ticket sales are not the problem here, the event was selling well and expected to sell out. A lot of good people in the area have worked very hard to make this work including Braehead Arena and it’s staff but unfortunately last minute inflation on prices by event contractors and the obvious unreliability have made it impossible to continue with the event for this year. We are exploring other possible dates and venues to replace this round and will keep everyone updated as the series moves forward.”
Because of the cancellation Future West have had long discussions with Braehead Arena and a tentative agreement has been put together for a 3 year contract for Supercross at Braehead Arena starting in November of 2012. With a year's planning we are positive the issues we are facing now will be resolved.
Next up for Future West is the Belfast round of British Supercross Championships next Saturday night at Odyssey Arena.
