Mike Kras triumphs in Schijndel Supercross By: Michiel Janssens / Beursfoon Suzuki MX Team
The supercross season started last weekend, kicking off in Schijndel (Holland). Former Dutch champion Mike Kras, after a short preparation period, seemed to be ready for the indoor event. Two wins and one second place in the second race brought Mike to the top of the podium on Saturday.
The Beursfoon Suzuki rider went even better on Sunday to write his name on all three motos. A brilliant win for both Mike and the Nimag Beursfoon Suzuki team.
Saturday: After the fastest training time Mike put his specially supercross-tuned Suzuki into a second place in the first round of the evening. At the time he was in charge, but a big accident gave rise to a yellow flag situation. Mike rode a little more carefully in this section where the rider in second position took full advantage and went away to get the win.
In the second round he would convert his race into a first race win of the new supercross season. Not without a struggle, Mike was in fourth position off the start. Lap after lap he reduced the gap with the leader before setting up an attack for the top placing. After taking the lead the Beursfoon Suzuki rider would go on to claim his first heat win.
In round three of the evening, Mike once again confirmed his good form with a strong start phase, which he began from third position. The rider from Fijnaart immediately put pressure on the leaders. Halfway through the race he would make the difference against the rider in second position and an attack was planned for the lead. On entering the final corner Mike continued the attack to perfectly cut off the leader who had no choice but to let him past. Mike’s pass in the last 50 metres made for a very exciting race.
Sunday: On Sunday things continued pretty much as they had on Saturday as Mike raced away to take all three race wins. A strong and dominant attitude was shown in the heats when Mike took over the lead again, then built up a lead which he would not relinquish - an incredibly good start to what Mike suggests holds “good prospects for the rest of the supercross season.”
