British Sidecarcross Championship
Tavernspite, Pembrokeshire, Wales (Round 4)

Chris Helm writes...

Yesterday saw another first for the Ian Durston Plant Services British Sidecarcross championships with round 4 being hosted by the Dyfed Dirt Bike club at the Tavernspite track near Carmarthen in south Wales. The meeting was run as a joint effort with Dredgers MX club and apart from issues with dust wasn’t a bad effort for a first time. The club accepts that things could be improved and have asked for constructive criticism to be entered on their website www.ddbc.org.uk.

The first race was led by Eastman from Wilkinson and Pelling with Brown just astern in fourth. Brown quickly took the lead from Eastman with Wilkinson now on his tail. Pelling dropped to 5th just behind Dan & Joe Millard. By lap two Wilkinson was past Eastman and two laps later Pelling was out with a broken engine. The first four remained in these positions to the flag with Topp coming fifth just ahead of Lyne.

Race two was headed into turn one by Pelling from Kinge and Eastman with Brown tucked in behind Eastman. Brown was quickly up to second place with Wilkinson in his wheel tracks and Kinge fourth. Brown took the lead on lap three and at half distance Wilkinson passed Pelling and took off after Brown. Behind the first three there was a real scarp developing with King, Eastman and Millard nose to tail. This lasted for a couple of laps until Eastman stalled his engine and lost 10 places in the process. Brown went on to take the win from Wilkinson with Pelling third.

The third and final race had to be restarted after a big crash just before turn one – see photo. The restart was led by Pelling from Brown and Eastman in third. On lap two Brown took the lead from Pelling with Wilkinson and Eastman coming past as well. Pelling had suffered a puncture and pulled in to change the wheel losing a lap in the process. After 10 minutes fourth placed Breacher came under increasing pressure from Millard and on the following lap they were past. They held onto 4th until lap nine when Kinge passed them and then finally on the last lap Lyne got past as well.

Brown took the overall win from Wilkinson with Kinge just taking third. Brown now leads the championship by 19 points from Wilkinson with Eastman a further 19 points behind in 3rd.

Round five of the championship is this weekend at Winterpick Farm near Horsham.
