Rhayader Evening Mx series 2011
sponsored by P.A.R. Homes & Baches Bargains

You have to take your hat off to the Rhayader club, despite the hard times we find ourselves in at the present, they still manage to produce an outstanding evening of entertainment and racing for just a £5! Sponsored by P.A.R Homes and Baches Bargains, Round 1 of the 2011 Mx Series certainly was a “bargain” for the thousands who packed into Cwmythig Hill once more to witness the start of the 2011 Series.

As is the norm the Experts were first out and it was Stephen sword that took the moto one holeshot with multi-Series Champion Brad Anderson for company. The pair started to pull away but Anderson made a rare mistake to drop back down to fourth spot behind Jamie Lewis and Carl Jones. With the blistering pace being set by Sword out front, although Anderson made it past the young Welsh riders in front of him and back into second place, there was no way of closing in on leader Sword who took moto one victory with ease. Moto two and Jamie Lewis got a fantastic start on the outside to holeshot. This time though Anderson was not in the mood for runner up and he had taken the lead by the end of the opening lap. Sword however had been put too and found himself having to cut his way through from the rear of the pack. With a clear track ahead Anderson set about building a big and uncatchable lead. Jamie Lewis held onto second spot as Sword slashed his way through the pack into third spot. The final moto and Anderson could have afforded to come second to Sword, but there was going to be none of that. Indeed, the front pair set off after Maarten Cremers who had holeshot the final race and it only took until the “wall of death” before Anderson outbraked the Belgian rider going into the ‘Wall’ to pull off a superb move for the lead. Sword was quick to pass his team mate and sit in Anderson’s roost waiting for the opportunity to take the lead. Matched for pace the lead pair were only going to be caught by a mistake and both rider had had their fair share of those already. So, as the Rhayader clock counted down, a thrilling last moto saw Anderson hold the lead and take the overall. Back out one more time for the Dash for Cash Jamie Lewis took another holeshot but once again it was Anderson that powered past to take the lead and eventual win from Sword, Lewis in third once more.

The Seniors produced a mixed bag of results. Wayne Price took the opening race win powering the big four stroke KTM to the chequered flag from Alex Davies and Cory McShane. However it was about as good as it got for Price as a crash forced him out of the results in moto two, where the smooth-as-silk Jonathan Roderick-Evans took his 250cc 2 stroke Yamaha from holeshot to a big win. Davies and McShane were once again next in line but a long way off the leader. The final moto was almost a repeat of the previous race in that Roderick-Evans took the holeshot and never lost the lead. However it was Wayne Price with hasty repairs to his KTM back in third spot this time, again though it was Mr. Consistent Alex Davies in runner-up spot, the hat trick of second place spots being good enough for the overall Senior title on the night. Marc Evans took his Suzuki to moto one and three race wins in the Junior class with Jason Rowlands taking moto two victory.

The Novice class action again produced a mixed bag with three different race winners. Moto one went to Roger Lovatt with Adam Uka taking moto two. However, Jamie Linton’s night got better with each race as he went from third in moto one to second in moto two and winner of the final race. The improvement was good enough to take the title by a healthy eleven points from Lovatt. Tom Hamer hit the right notes to take all three local beginners race wins from Alwyn Watkins.
