WOR Events Time Card Enduro
Cefn Llywd Forest

A cold and frosty Cefn Llywd Forest greeted riders on Sunday morning for the WOR Events Time Card Enduro. Although WOR usually organise XC and Hare Scrambles this event was very well organised and ran with military precision. A clear and sunny day dawned and penetrated all but the deepest sections of the woodland although long shadows prevented a few small areas of fire road from thawing.

A large entry of over 110 riders, many from XC racing, set off at one-minute intervals following a lengthy explanation from a handful of the more experienced TCE riders. The Open class were set for five laps and tests, the Clubmen four, Sportsman and Ladies three.

Time checks were quite slack to encourage newbies into TCE but the organisers sensibly altered the course on the out loop, cutting a couple of minutes off the ride time when parts of the course saw the ground fail to thaw. This was a safety measure to ensure that all riders had time to make their check.

The course consisted of a 30-minute loop with a 5-minute Special Test. The large loop consisted of a mixture of forest sections and fast fire roads whilst the Special Test ran through tight woodland areas, up and down rolling tracks, along stream beds with a fast fire road to the finish.

Tom Sagar recieves his trophy from Steve IrelandTom Sagar nailed the fastest test time of the day, 4 minutes 44 seconds, on his Putoline Suzuki RMX450Z on the first test and only Rowland, aboard his new Sherco 300, joined Tom in the ‘under five-minutes’ bracket.

Sagar continued to dominate the Open class with Morris in tow and won overall by just over a minute. Morris took a solid second place with Mark Roberts ten seconds behind in third. Andrew Edwards narrowly missed the top three by just four seconds with Lewis Bellfield in fifth. Special mention must go to Stu Hughes who once again turned his MX hands to enduro, on a CR500. Brave lad, he managed to finish.

The Clubman class should really be renamed Clubwomen as Jane Daniels took a superb win by nearly a minute over Aled Jones in second. Daniels first test time was a fraction over 6-minutes and remained the time to beat throughout the day. Rob McLeod trailed Jones by 30-seconds to take third in class, just ahead of Alex West and Lee Parry.

Paul Sagar continued the Suzuki/Sagar domination with an excellent win in the Over 40’s. Sagar on a  new 250F beating Craig Parkes into second spot  with Colin Jones in his element, despite a few crashes, in third. Garry Parr just took fourth place from Gareth Lloyd as Lloydy crashed big time on the final test to finish fifth on his brand spanking Kawasaki KX250F.

Owain Davies was top dog in the Sportsman class, a minute clear of Ian Jones in second and two minutes clear of Owen Jones in third. Tom Rowley took fourth despite a relatively slow final test with Elgan Roberts taking fifth.

Rhian George and Helen Lang were the only two riders in the Ladies class to complete three tests with George taking the win, Lang second and Helen Spiers in third.

The Beginners class found the going hard but it was a good introduction to the sport and gave some of these first timers valuable experience in the world of TCE.

Winning the event overall saw Sagar rewarded with not only a silver salver but £150 in cash from CF Racing who put up the prize money to celebrate becoming North Wales newest Kawasaki dealer.

The event ran really well. The going was tough in places and riders learned plenty, the throttle works both ways as Over 40 Ian Barnett will testify. His high speed off on a fire road saw him over the bars into a muddy section and left him with two broken ribs but he was far from alone where crashing was concerned.

Part of the test of this type of event is the ability of riders to adapt their skills to changing terrain. The timing and course were spot on any many riders enjoyed the challenge of the Special Test in addition to the large loop where they could virtually ride at their leisure.

A good event, which was well received and supported. Get ready for more TCE’s from WOR Events.
