CF Racing Wednesday Evening X-Country Series
Round 2 - Maeshafn, Mold

WEDNESDAY EVENING XC SERIES 2008
ROUND 2 11TH JUNE 2008
@MAESHAFN, MOLD, FLINTSHIRE.

Report by G.Turner

After a cracking event at the ever popular MAESHAFN last weekend the hard working WOR Events team returned on Wednesday night to run the 2nd round of the CF Racing Wednesday Evening XC series.

Nearly 100 riders entered the 2 hour race starting at 6.30pm sharp on a completely different lap to the previous weekend’s circuit.

With grading work and stone removal having taken place in the couple of days preceding the event, added to the fact the course builders added in some fresh sections made for a 4.5 mile loop that apart from the dust had everyone pleased with their decision to ride.

Once again it was that man Lincoln Brewster who was to prove the fastest man there.
On his KTM 200 he simply just pulled away and stayed there from start to finish, riding with his usual neat and flowing style.

Come the end of the race Lincoln was the only rider to complete 14 laps of the track.
Second placed Expert was Andrew Edwards, on his KTM 125. Edwards finished 1 minute and 20 seconds ahead of bronze finisher Andrew Cripps. Cripps was up to his usual tricks by entertaining the crowds with “big air!”

The Clubman group was topped by Lewis Belfield who after a huge race long ding dong with Stephen Hughes was 40 seconds clear at the top with 13 laps. Hughes took the runner-up place, also on 13 laps from 3rd placed Daf Jones. Hughes finishing 1 and a half minutes clear of CF Racing’s Jones.

The Veteran class has the over 45’s and over 35’s combined for this championship and it was a very healthy class. Colin Jones took a well-deserved win from series sponsor Gareth Lloyd and Ian Barnett in 3rd. All the top 3 here did 13 laps to their credit.

Jason Hicken took the sportsman honours with Darren Moloney taking the Novice group. These guys did 12 laps apiece putting them on club man pace more than the intermediate groups they had entered.

Simon Jones took a great youth class win on his little Yam 85 from runner up Josh Taylor. Huw Jones on his Gas Gas 125 was a well respectable 3rd place. All the top youth riders did 11 laps.

In the small ladies group Young Jane Daniels was unstoppable at the front with 11 laps to her credit from Kate Lloyd’s 10 in the runner-up position and Leah Jones in the final podium place on 9 circuits.

The presentation was wrapped up neatly and over 20 trophies given out within minutes of the last rider crossing the line and as darkness fell over the beautiful venue and the riders left the paddock the WOR team sat back and had a few very well-deserved beers as the next day’s cleanup mission was planned.

The next round of the CF Racing series (final) is on July 30th.

The next event for WOR is the TBM XC series round 3 at the famous Nantmawr Quarry on the weekend of 21/22nd June.
